City Considers Requiring Lobbyists to Register - Los Angeles Times
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Paid lobbyists would be required to register with the city and identify their clients under a proposed ordinance before the City Council.
The measure was prompted by recent lobbying scandals in Congress.
Former area Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham resigned his seat last year after pleading guilty to accepting $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors and others.
Proposed fees for registering would be $80 each year and an additional $15 per year for every client the lobbyist represents. Fines of $10 per day for delinquent fees would be instituted.
The council will vote Wednesday on the proposed ordinance.
